AQUAMIRA FRONTIER packaging reads “drink from any water bottle, cup, or directly from water source.” It goes on to say …”for maximum protection to use the filter in conjunction with water treatment drops or water purifier tablets" While tablets are not required with this filter straw, in the wild it would be prudent to back up your filtering with the tablets or drops.. See below for what the CDC has to say about the most common waterborne disease. Additionally most survival experts will recommend avoiding or at a minimum boiling questionable water first before drinking.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) writes Cryptosporidium is a microscopic parasite that causes the diarrheal disease cryptosporidiosis. Both the parasite and the disease are commonly known as "Crypto. “There are many species of Cryptosporidium that infect humans and animals. The parasite is protected by an outer shell that allows it to survive outside the body for long periods of time and makes it very tolerant to chlorine disinfection.
While this parasite can be spread in several different ways, water (drinking water and recreational water) is the most common method of transmission. Cryptosporidium is one of the most frequent causes of waterborne disease among humans in the United States.”
The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) writes “Giardiasis a microscopic parasite that causes the diarrheal illness known as giardiasis. Giardia also known as Giardia intestinal is, Giardia lamblia, or Giardia duodenal which is found on surfaces or in soil, food, or water that has been contaminated with feces from infected humans or animals.”
